Grand Rapids, Mich. — Detroit Red Wings goaltending prospect Trey Augustine is still searching for his first win of the season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, while his crease partner has been one of the best goalies in the American Hockey League.
The 21-year-old Michigan native has allowed eight goals while making 48 saves in his two starts, and his record stands at 0-1-1. His winless streak at the pro level now covers four starts.
In his latest outing, against the Milwaukee Admirals at Panther Arena, Augustine made 22 saves on 25 shots, and the Griffins pulled him with 2:35 left. Rookie Carter Bear scored his first professional goal in that game.
Augustine, a 2023 second-round pick, became the organization’s top goalie prospect after Detroit traded Sebastian Cossa at the NHL Draft. Michal Postava has won his first three starts with a .950 save percentage.
The Griffins are 3-1-1-0 and play two games against the Rockford IceHogs this weekend.
