GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A trio of West Michigan prep football squads can turn shared league crowns into outright titles Friday, as South Christian, Grand Rapids Catholic Central and Hopkins each chase a clear league crown around Grand Rapids in Week 8.

Only two regular-season weeks remain before the postseason. Local power rankings highlight five clubs on the rise after seven weeks, including Christian after a 29-28 overtime win over West Catholic that ended a 22-game conference streak for the Falcons.

East Kentwood reinforced its West Michigan standing with a 49-27 road win over previously unbeaten Caledonia. Zeeland West blanked Unity Christian 36-0 to stay in title contention, ending Unity’s long streak without a shutout.

Statewide playoff-point tables through seven weeks list Grand Rapids Catholic Central at 66.514 points with a 6-1 record among the Division 5 leaders, underlining how close Friday’s games sit to Selection Sunday on Oct. 25.

District-round playoff games are scheduled to open Friday, Oct. 30, under the MHSAA bracket.
