GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Brewery Vivant’s new private event venue in Grand Rapids’ East Hills neighborhood finally has a name, and the public picked it. The Abbey won the brewery’s community naming vote with 45% of the ballots.
The Roost came in second and Maison Vivant placed third. The vote began in September, when the brewery put seven finalists drawn from customer suggestions in front of the public, with ballots taken online, on social media and on signs inside the building.
Located at the brewery’s 925 Cherry St. SE home, the roughly 3,500-square-foot room once held tanks and production equipment. It is planned for weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate events, nonprofit gatherings and other private parties of up to 200 people, and it will run separately from the restaurant while staying linked to the rest of the campus.
Plans call for its own bar, new floors and restrooms, custom woodwork and reopened storefront windows facing Lake Drive.
The room opened up after Vivant moved production of its core wholesale beers to Saugatuck Brewing Company’s plant in Douglas under a brewing partnership. Specialty and experimental beers are still made in Grand Rapids. The venue is expected to open this fall and will book events for 2027.
