GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids voters no longer have to wait for Election Day on Nov. 3. Early in-person voting opened Tuesday and stays open through Nov. 1, giving city residents close to two weeks to cast a ballot.

That is a longer stretch than most of Michigan gets. A 2022 constitutional amendment requires at least nine straight days of early voting, and for most precincts that window runs from Oct. 24 through Nov. 1.

The process works much like Election Day: a voter goes to a site, marks a ballot and feeds it into a tabulator. The big difference is location. Instead of an assigned precinct, a registered city voter can pick any of the four early voting sites.

Those sites include St. Peter and Paul School on Quarry Avenue NW, Ottawa Hills High School on Rosewood Street SE and New Hope Baptist Church on Delaware Street SW.

Voters can confirm their registration through the Michigan Voter Information Center by entering a ZIP code along with a name and birth month and year. Clerk staff will be at the early sites to help with registration, and anyone who finds they are not registered can still sign up and vote on Election Day at the city clerk’s office with ID and proof of residency.
