GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Two of the main one-way routes through Heritage Hill in Grand Rapids could soon carry traffic in both directions. Mobile GR, the city department that runs streets and traffic patterns, is weighing a plan to make Lyon and Fountain streets two-way east of Division Avenue.

Both streets already switch to two-way traffic at Division. The idea, which came from the city traffic engineer, would push that double yellow line farther east into the neighborhood.

The push follows complaints from Heritage Hill residents who say the web of one-way roads is hard to follow. Some drivers have ended up heading the wrong way on Lyon Street. No final decision or start date has been set.

Residents get their say first. Mobile GR and the engineering firm AECOM will hold an open house on Nov. 17 in the Ryerson Auditorium at the Grand Rapids Public Library main branch, 111 Library St. NE. City staff will walk through the recommendation, answer questions and collect feedback.

Signing up ahead of time is encouraged but not required. People with questions can reach Mobile GR at 616-456-3290.
