Grand Rapids, Michigan – Savannah Remijin, an 18-year-old with a remarkable academic journey, has graduated from college a month before completing high school. She achieved this milestone by earning a bachelor’s degree in legal studies from Davenport University. Demonstrating her commitment to a legal career, Remijin has already taken the LSAT and has been accepted into law school at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where she will begin her studies next fall.

Currently, Remijin works full-time as a legal assistant at the law firm of Mika Meyers in downtown Grand Rapids, effectively balancing her work and future academic commitments. Her early graduation is particularly significant as she completed her degree through a dual enrollment program while also taking high school courses at a homeschool co-op.

Felicia Pope, assistant director of high school admissions at Davenport University, noted that Remijin’s achievement is exceptional, stating that she has never seen a student earn a bachelor’s degree through dual enrollment at such a young age. Remijin attributes much of her success to her mother, a former academic advisor at Davenport, who discovered the possibility of dual enrollment through an education blog.

In addition to her studies, Remijin has inspired others around her; her cousin and younger sister are now considering pursuing bachelor’s degrees through the same program. Throughout her rigorous academic journey, she was able to manage typical teenage responsibilities alongside her college coursework, LSAT preparation, and an internship at a small law practice.

However, Remijin’s path has not been without challenges. She faced a significant health issue when diagnosed with Lyme disease at the beginning of her senior year, resulting in considerable pain and inflammation. Despite this diagnosis, she decided to forgo a planned year of recovery to maintain her academic schedule, showcasing her resilience and determination.

In contrast, the institution where she currently holds her position as a legal assistant, the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, faces its challenges as well. The American Bar Association has placed the law school on probation due to concerns regarding its bar exam passage rate. The school’s President is expected to present a case for maintaining accreditation, highlighting ongoing improvements in compliance.

Meanwhile, there are also developments in the area surrounding the law school, with the suburban Grand Rapids developer The Granger Group announcing plans to invest in transforming the former Cooley Law School building into a mixed-use space. This development may include a restaurant, hotel, and corporate training facilities. The building is listed for sale at $8.9 million but is anticipated to be purchased for a lower price, with development activities projected to begin in the fall of 2025.

Savannah Remijin’s journey serves as an inspiration to many young students, proving that with determination, it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve educational success at an early age.
