GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Five Grand Rapids-area boys tennis teams — Rockford, West Ottawa, Forest Hills Northern, East Grand Rapids, and Holland Christian — earned regional championships last week and advance to the MHSAA Lower Peninsula finals.
Hudsonville senior Gavin Luchies also qualified individually by winning a regional title at No. 1 singles. Twelve local teams and one individual qualifier will compete for state hardware at Midland Tennis Center.
MHSAA finals run Oct. 14-24 at Midland Tennis Center, with Division 1 on Oct. 14-15, Division 3 on Oct. 16-17, Division 4 on Oct. 21-22, and Division 2 on Oct. 23-24.
Rockford and West Ottawa shared a regional title with Portage Central, Forest Hills Northern won its regional outright, East Grand Rapids finished second behind Northern, and Holland Christian also punched a team ticket as West Michigan depth showed in the opening playoff weekend.
The finals stretch starts today for Division 1 and continues through Oct. 24 for Division 2, giving Grand Rapids-area programs a multi-week runway at Midland.
