GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Griffins captain Dominik Shine reached a franchise milestone in style Saturday night, posting a hat trick and his 100th goal as a Griffin as his team beat the visiting Cleveland Monsters 5-2 downtown at Van Andel Arena.
Only two other players in team history have hit 100, Michel Picard with 158 and Francis Pare with 102. The win stretched the Griffins point streak to six games.
Shine struck first, 3:35 into the game, and doubled the lead just 1:13 after the second period began. Sheldon Dries then made it 3-0 with a shorthanded goal at 7:11. Dries finished with a goal and two assists while playing his 400th AHL game.
Luke Tuch got Cleveland on the board with a shorthanded goal later in the second. Ondrej Becher answered on the power play early in the third, and after Tate Singleton pulled the Monsters within two, Shine iced it by scoring into the empty Cleveland net with 3:05 to play.
Carter Gylander stopped 24 shots in his first start of the season. At the other end, Cleveland goalie Pheonix Copley turned aside 26. The Monsters slipped to 5-3 and play Milwaukee next on Friday, Oct. 30.
