Grand Rapids, Michigan, is set to host ArtPrize 2025 from September 18 to October 4, 2025, with an exciting lineup of events centering around the theme “Arborialis: An ArtPrize Experience.” The event is a significant international art competition that attracts artists and visitors from across the globe, promoting cultural engagement and creativity in the heart of the city.
At the forefront of this year’s festivities is the Arborialis exhibit, an expansive 12,000 square-foot installation reaching a height of 32 feet. Designed to be an immersive experience, Arborialis will envelop visitors in a sensory journey featuring light, sound, and color. The exhibit will allow attendees to navigate through a large-scale maze, aptly described as a “dreamscape,” where they can interact with transformative artistic displays.
ArtPrize 2025 is packed with 16 days of events, including a grand opening celebration and a halftime show, culminating in an awards ceremony. The opening celebration is scheduled for September 19 at Rosa Parks Circle, where interactive art installations and a fireworks display along the Grand River will captivate attendees. A lively pedestrian parade will also take place, concluding its route at the Pearl Street Bridge.
The halftime show, taking place on September 26, promises to be a vibrant music and arts festival, providing an engaging midpoint for the festival. On October 3, the awards ceremony will unfold at Studio Park, designed as a red carpet celebration honoring the artistic achievements of the participants.
During the festival, visitors can also explore the Merchants and Makers Market, held on Saturdays at Monroe Center and Ottawa Avenue. This market showcases hundreds of regional artists and makers, further enriching the community’s engagement with art and crafts.
ArtPrize organizers have issued a call for participation to both local and national artists, with registration set to remain open until May 30, 2025. Last year, the event drew more than 795,000 visitors, generating an economic impact estimated at $71 million. To incentivize creativity and innovation, ArtPrize will allocate over $600,000 in grants and prizes to participating artists this year.
The organization of the ArtPrize festival is a collaborative effort involving key leadership from Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., the city of Grand Rapids, and Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. This partnership ensures that the festival remains an integral part of Grand Rapids’ cultural landscape and continues to attract a diverse array of participants and audiences.
As the countdown to ArtPrize 2025 begins, Grand Rapids prepares to welcome an array of artistic talent and creativity, promising an unforgettable experience for all who attend.
