Bradley Track and Field Athletes Shine Bright at Recent Competitions

Last weekend was nothing short of spectacular for the Bradley track and field team, as they competed at three exciting events: the Eagle Elite Invitational, the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, and the Grand Valley State Big Meet. The atmosphere was electric, with athletes pushing their limits and achieving remarkable results.

A Star in the Mile

Fifth-year senior Jack Crull was the standout star, making headlines by smashing the program record in the men’s mile. Crull finished the race in an astonishing time of 3:55.93, improving his previous record by an impressive 1.27 seconds. This achievement is a testament to his hard work and dedication over the years, and it’s safe to say that he has set the bar high for future contenders.

Fresh Faces Making Their Mark

Not to be outdone, freshman Travis Gaffney showcased his potential by placing seventh in the men’s 3000-meter race, clocking in just over 8:14. Meanwhile, junior Trixie Wraith led the women’s mile run, finishing in 17th place with a solid time of 4:43.14. Right behind her was graduate senior Abigail Hancock, crossing the line just 0.32 seconds later, securing 19th place.

Junior Kaitlyn Sheppard also made waves, participating in the women’s 3000-meter race and finishing 16th with a time of 9:27.52.

Boston Beckons

The David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston was another platform where the Braves shone. Sophomore Jayde Rosslee competed fiercely in the men’s 5000-meter race, finishing in an impressive time of 13:48.32, placing 54th among a staggering 212 competitors. In the women’s 800-meter race at the same event, Hancock completed her run in 2:08.27, landing in 31st place. Sheppard also took her chance in the mile run, finishing 49th after crossing the finish line in 4:43.29.

Great Results at Grand Valley

Over at the Grand Valley State Big Meet, senior Amiyah Davis continued her strong season by placing 10th in the women’s 200-meter with a time of 24.83 seconds while securing second place in the women’s 400-meter, finishing at 54.47 seconds. Freshman Carolina Martinez closely followed Davis in the 400-meter race, indicating a bright future for the young athlete. Davis expressed a delightful surprise at her performance and appreciated the positive vibe surrounding the event.

Men’s 800-Meter Highlights

In the men’s 800-meter event, Sophia Jaxson Copelin crossed the finish line an incredible second, with a time of 1:48.68. He was joined by teammate Kaden Kingsmith, who finished fifth in the same event, completing his race in under 1:50. This impressive performance highlights the depth and talent present in the men’s team.

Looking Ahead

Head coach Andrew Carlson praised the athletes for their outstanding performances across these multiple venues. With the upcoming MVC meets on the horizon, the focus will be on setting individual goals and aiming for excellence. The Braves are ready to pack their bags for South Bend, Indiana, where they will aim to secure spots at the NCAA Indoor Championships—a goal that their relay teams are particularly focused on.

As for Crull and the Distance Medley Relay team, they are honing in on making it to nationals, keeping the momentum going strong. The excitement within the team is palpable, making it a thrilling time to be part of the Bradley track and field family!
