A new nonprofit initiative, Heart of Food, also aims to support the local mobile food community. Opening night will feature live music from Harry Dean & The Dusty Boys.

Grand Rapids is set to kick off the ninth season of Food Truck Fridays on May 16, 2025, bringing a lively atmosphere of delicious food, local music, and community spirit to Riverside Park. The weekly event will run every Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. until August 18, 2025, with the exception of July 4, when no event will take place.

Each week, over 20 food trucks will be present at the ball field entrance of Riverside Park, located at 2900 Monroe Ave., offering a variety of culinary delights. The event serves as a community gathering point, featuring local bands providing live music, and a beer tent organized by the Creston Neighborhood Association. This year, visitors can take advantage of a new Frequent Fridays card, which allows attendees to collect stamps for a chance to win tiered prizes.

Food Truck Fridays is expected to attract between 3,000 to 5,000 people each week, making it one of the highlight events of the summer in Grand Rapids. To prepare for the influx of visitors, organizers have cautioned attendees regarding parking availability. The parking lot adjacent to the event space may fill up quickly, and once full, additional vehicles will not be allowed into the lot until space opens. It is important for attendees to refrain from parking on curbs or grass, as this could result in event cancellation.

This year’s Food Truck Fridays will feature the launch of a new nonprofit initiative called Heart of Food, founded by event creator Alan Tomlinson. The nonprofit aims to bolster the mobile food community in Grand Rapids and has developed a complimentary app that provides comprehensive information about events, food truck lineups, and an interactive platform for users to vote for their favorite trucks across various categories. Additionally, the app includes a punch card system that rewards patrons with a free item after making ten purchases at participating food trucks.

Opening night will showcase live music from Harry Dean & The Dusty Boys, a local country jam band, adding to the festive atmosphere of the event. Details regarding food vendors and live entertainment throughout the season will be regularly updated on the GR8 Food Trucks Facebook page.

In recent times, the food truck scene in Grand Rapids has blossomed, with around 40 new food trucks entering the market in the past year alone. This surge highlights the growing interest in mobile dining options and provides more opportunities for food vendors to connect with the community. Organizers stress the importance of supporting local food trucks and businesses, which continue to enrich the cultural fabric of Grand Rapids.

As Food Truck Fridays approaches, it presents a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to gather, enjoy local cuisine, listen to great music, and participate in the vibrant community atmosphere that Grand Rapids has cultivated over the years. With plenty of tasty options, fun prizes, and engaging entertainment, the event is poised to be a popular destination all summer long.
