Grand Rapids Bakery Expands Hours and Menu to Better Serve Community

Grand Rapids – Open Door Bakery, operated by Dégagé Ministries, has announced an expansion of its operating hours and menu offerings in order to better cater to the downtown community. Located at 144 Division Avenue at the intersection of Cherry Street, the bakery is now open on weekends, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in addition to its weekday hours, which remain Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This strategic expansion seeks to attract more customers, particularly those working in the Heartside area. As a special incentive, downtown workers can also take advantage of discounts on their purchases, further encouraging foot traffic and support for the bakery.

New Offerings Enhance Customer Experience

The bakery has significantly updated its menu by introducing a variety of new items designed to appeal to a broad range of taste preferences. Customers can now choose from two new bagel sandwiches, six different flavored coffee options, yogurt parfaits, and a unique monthly muffin flavor. Alongside these additions, Open Door Bakery continues to provide its popular offerings, including cookies, cupcakes, and bagels.

Delivery Now Available Through DoorDash

In response to shifting consumer habits and preferences, Open Door Bakery has also joined the food delivery trend by partnering with DoorDash. This new service allows customers to enjoy their favorite baked goods from the comfort of their homes or workplaces, expanding accessibility to those who may not be able to visit the bakery in person.

Supporting Workforce Development

Open Door Bakery not only serves the community through its food offerings but also plays a pivotal role in workforce development. The bakery is staffed by women enrolled in Dégagé’s workforce development program. Notably, among the team are four former shelter guests who have successfully transitioned to full-time employment through this initiative. This model highlights the bakery’s commitment to providing opportunities and creating a supportive environment for those in need.

Background of Open Door Bakery

Opened in 2023, Open Door Bakery was established with the aim of raising funds for the Dégagé Ministries Open Door Women’s Center, which offers a range of supportive services to women experiencing homelessness and poverty. By integrating social services with a business model, Open Door Bakery aims to create lasting positive change in the community it serves.
