Grand Rapids, Michigan – Public pools and splash pads in Grand Rapids officially opened for the summer season on Friday, June 6, 2025. Residents can enjoy two operational public pools—Briggs Park Pool and Martin Luther King Jr. Park Pool—from June 6 until August 16.

However, the Richmond Pool will remain closed initially due to pump issues, with hopes of reopening around the week of June 23. City officials are committed to providing updates regarding the status of Richmond Pool through social media platforms and the city’s official website.

The city offers two main public pools, which operate from noon to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays, and from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. All pools will be closed on Mondays for maintenance to ensure the facilities remain in good condition for the community.

In addition to the pools, Grand Rapids has 15 splash pads distributed across various parks, including locations such as Aberdeen Park, Alger Park, Campau Park, and many others. These splash pads are open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will remain accessible until the end of the summer on September 14.

Prior to the opening of the pools, local residents were encouraged to pick up pool passes during designated pass-pick-up nights. Free passes for Grand Rapids youth were available until Thursday, June 5, after which they would cost $5. Pass pick-up events took place at Briggs Park Pool on June 3, Richmond Park Pool on June 4, and MLK Jr. Park Pool on June 5, all between 5 and 8 p.m.

It is important to note that children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult while at the pool to ensure safety measures are observed. Families and young swimmers can look forward to a fun-filled summer now that the pools and splash pads have opened for public use.

For context, the city of Grand Rapids maintains several public swimming facilities, providing residents with ample opportunities to stay cool and enjoy recreational activities during the hot summer months. With the current closures at Richmond Pool, community members are reminded to stay tuned for the latest updates as the city works towards resolving the pump issues.
