Grand Rapids – The Mitten Vintage Market is set to return to downtown Grand Rapids this Saturday, May 31, providing an opportunity for community members and vintage enthusiasts to access a diverse array of products from over 80 vendors. The event will take place at Calder Plaza from noon to 6 p.m. and is sponsored by Downtown Grand Rapids Inc.
Visitors can expect a vibrant market showcasing vintage clothing, local brands, sneakers, streetwear, collectibles, and more. This event draws attention for its unique offerings and has become a popular gathering in the community.
Since its inception in 2019, the Mitten Vintage Market has grown significantly, expanding its reach beyond Grand Rapids to include various Michigan cities such as Holland, Comstock Park, and Ann Arbor. In addition to local events, the market has also ventured out of state, hosting successful gatherings in Chicago, demonstrating its widespread appeal.
In tandem with its scheduled markets, another Mitten Vintage Market is planned for Holland on Sunday, June 8. This event will feature over 40 vendors and take place at the Holland Civic Center, located at 150 W Eighth St., also from noon to 6 p.m. Furthermore, the Downtown Market is gearing up to host a Vintage and Handmade Marketplace on Sunday, September 29, which will feature more than 60 vendors selling vintage and handmade items. This marketplace signifies the final event of a trio of scheduled gatherings for the 2024 season, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. under the Market Shed and in the Downtown Market’s parking lot.
In other related news, the Elevate Grand Rapids vintage and artisan marketplace is preparing for an even larger operation. Set to relocate to a new space at 955 Godfrey Ave. SW, the marketplace will increase its size significantly, tripling its footprint from 8,000 to 25,000 square feet. The anticipated move to Godfrey Hollow, which is expected to occur in late June, aims to sustain an artistic hub in southwest Grand Rapids.
The new location will offer more than 100 vendors and will include a dedicated vintage clothing boutique, a market for vintage furniture, and a small art gallery. The owner intends to maintain the curated and organized feel of the original store while enhancing the range of offerings and expanding the workforce, thus fostering a more robust shopping experience for customers.
