With plans for a delivery service and an operational drive-thru in the future, the restaurant is set to become a beloved part of the local community.

Grand Rapids, MI – The Toasted Pickle, a popular sandwich shop renowned for its creative twists on classic sandwiches, has officially opened its third location in Grand Rapids, marking an expansion for the brand. The new eatery celebrated its soft opening on August 12, 2023, at 820 Michigan St. NE, conveniently situated just east of the Michigan Street hill.

The menu at the Grand Rapids location offers a wide variety of over 15 different sandwiches, including fan favorites such as the French dip and several grilled cheese variations, alongside the distinct Cuban sandwich. In addition to sandwiches, patrons can enjoy a selection of soups, salads, and sides. The sides menu features unique items like pickle poppers, truffle fries, beer-battered fries, and creamy macaroni and cheese.

The Toasted Pickle was founded in 2016 by Karen Avery and her husband Jim, with their son Alec now overseeing operations at the new Grand Rapids site. The establishment first opened in downtown Grand Haven, followed by a second location in downtown Rockford in 2022 at 17 Squires St. Square NE. This new site in Grand Rapids previously housed a Thai restaurant before transitioning to The Toasted Pickle.

The restaurant is currently set up to provide both dine-in and take-out services. Although a drive-thru window is part of the design, it is not yet operational; however, future plans include the introduction of a delivery service to enhance customer convenience. The establishment operates from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and extends its hours to 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Featured items on the menu include signature creations such as the “Billy from Philly” cheesesteak and the inventive “Green Goddess” grilled cheese, made with a combination of cheddar, goat cheese, avocado, and pesto. The restaurant has dedicated portions of its decor and branding to honor the founder’s family heritage, which includes a wall celebrating the art of pickling, reflecting the background of the founder’s father.

To enhance the dining experience, The Toasted Pickle aims to foster a fun atmosphere, evident through its clever branding initiatives such as “The Order of the Toasted Pickle” and a pickle-themed game available on their website, designed to engage customers.

The expansion into Grand Rapids comes as part of The Toasted Pickle’s ongoing mission to provide delicious food with a unique flair, continuing to build on the success of its earlier locations in Grand Haven and Rockford. As the restaurant settles into its new space, it looks forward to becoming a cherished part of the Grand Rapids community.
