MJR Theatres has officially launched Michigan’s largest laser IMAX screen in Troy, enhancing the local moviegoing experience. This state-of-the-art IMAX, powered by advanced dual 4K laser technology, features 300 reclining chairs and a lineup of exciting summer films, starting with ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps.’ Mayor Ethan Baker celebrated the opening, highlighting the importance of local entertainment options. The auditorium’s design and technology promise an immersive viewing experience, signaling growth in the IMAX market in the coming years.
MJR Theatres launched its newest IMAX screen in Troy on Friday, marking the debut of the largest laser IMAX screen in Michigan. This opening event featured the inaugural screening of “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” kicking off a summer lineup of eight IMAX films.
The Troy location is significant for MJR, being the second IMAX screen in the company’s network of ten theaters across Michigan, following the successful opening of the first IMAX screen at MJR Southgate in November 2023. The decision to add an IMAX screen in Troy came after the chain’s marketing director noted the popularity and positive reception of the Southgate IMAX.
The renovated Troy cinema now boasts 300 “zero gravity” reclining chairs, addressing previous complaints as it was the only MJR location without these amenities. The upgrade not only enhances comfort but also improves the overall experience for moviegoers.
The IMAX experience in Troy is powered by advanced dual 4K laser technology, delivering exceptional full dynamic sound, increased brightness, and deeper blacks. Some select rows in the auditorium feature VIP seats equipped with heated recliners, side tables, storage compartments, and privacy enclosures, ensuring an immersive viewing experience.
The newly designed IMAX auditorium is easily recognizable with oversized “IMAX” letters standing over 2 feet tall at the entrance. Positioned in theater eight, directly across from the bar area, it provides a convenient and stunning environment for movie enthusiasts.
Mayor Ethan Baker of Troy attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony with great anticipation surrounding the community’s new entertainment addition. During the event, he recognized MJR Theatres for introducing the largest laser IMAX screen in the Metro Detroit area, highlighting the importance of local businesses in enhancing the region’s cultural offerings.
The official opening night concluded with exciting movie trailers, setting the stage for the much-anticipated first screening of the summer featuring “Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Looking ahead, film fans can expect to see other blockbuster titles this summer, including “Superman,” “F1 The Movie,” and “Jurassic World Rebirth.”
IMAX technology is forecasted to see substantial growth, with projections estimating record box office revenue of $1.2 billion globally in 2025. This anticipated growth reflects the ongoing popularity of immersive cinematic experiences, which have gained traction in recent years.
MJR Theatres is located at 100 E. Maple Road in Troy. For more details on the Troy location and upcoming films, interested individuals can visit the MJR Theatres official website.
In summary, the opening of Michigan’s largest laser IMAX screen in Troy represents a significant milestone for MJR Theatres and the local entertainment landscape, offering an upgraded movie experience for residents and visitors alike.
