Check-in for participants will begin at 7:15 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies starting at 8:00 a.m., led by U.S. Army veteran Danielle Engle, who will perform the national anthem. The 5-mile run will commence at 8:30 a.m., followed by the myTeam Triumph 5K at 8:50 a.m., where volunteer “Angels” will assist veterans by pushing them in chariots. The 0.5-mile remembrance walk will begin at 8:55 a.m..
Registration for the Veterans Day 5 is open to the public, and individuals can register on the same day. Attendees are encouraged to enter the event off Coit Avenue NE, where they will find clear signs for parking and check-in. Additional parking is also available in front of the multi-story brick building at 3000 Monroe Ave. NE.
Ryan Engle, the director of development and strategic engagement for Michigan Veteran Homes, expressed that the event is focused on celebrating service and enhancing community connection. Proceeds from the Veterans Day 5 will benefit the Charitable Support Fund at Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids, which helps fund quality-of-life programs and equipment needed for veterans. Additionally, Zero Day will contribute 100% of the event’s proceeds and donations to the veteran home.
