A ribbon-cutting ceremony, complete with food trucks and live music, is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, at 9 a.m. to celebrate the bridge’s opening. This inaugural event is free and open to the public, and will include a “Run, Walk, Roll” event to further engage the community.

The construction of the bridge comes in response to significant safety concerns along 28th Street, where over 30,000 vehicles travel daily. The busy thoroughfare has seen more than 10% of all traffic crashes in Wyoming, and over the last decade, there have been more than 2,300 crashes reported on this stretch of road between Burlingame and U.S. 131, including five fatalities.

The pedestrian bridge is a key part of the broader City Center project, which aims to revitalize the downtown area along 28th Street. The state has invested $20 million in this initiative, which has an estimated total cost of $36.8 million. Plans for the City Center include not just the pedestrian bridge, but also the addition of more trails, a public plaza, and various commercial and residential spaces.

Construction work in the area will ramp up further, as Magnus Capital Partners is set to begin work on a six-story building adjacent to the new bridge. This development will feature 170 housing units alongside commercial tenants, expanding the local business landscape in a rapidly growing part of Wyoming.

The City Center project has already attracted investments and interest from new businesses, including a recently opened Popeye’s franchise, demonstrating the potential for economic growth stimulated by the infrastructure improvements. The pedestrian bridge will play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity for residents heading to Pinery Park and accessing local commercial amenities.

Despite some initial delays in construction due to material availability, the project was completed under budget, marking a successful achievement in Wyoming’s ongoing development efforts.
