GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Calvin University kept its perfect season going Saturday, piling up 553 yards in a 52-20 MIAA win over Albion College at Knight Stadium in Grand Rapids.
The nationally ranked Knights, No. 23, improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in league play, leaving them in a three-way tie for first with Hope and Trine. Next up is a 1 p.m. road game at Trine on Oct. 31.
Senior quarterback Thomas Vaccaro went 24 of 31 for 369 yards with four touchdown passes and also ran for a score. That gave him 33 touchdown passes this fall, already a Calvin single-season record. East Grand Rapids product Leighton Kolk ran for two short touchdowns.
Calvin led 27-7 at the half. Albion blocked two kicks in the game, the first time its defense had done that this season, and Dorian Freeman scored both Britons rushing touchdowns from a yard out.
Albion quarterback Ian Deromedi threw for 201 yards, a season best, including a 40-yard scoring pass to Jaylan Johnson.
