GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Griffins are getting a familiar young defenseman back. The Detroit Red Wings on Friday sent Axel Sandin-Pellikka to their AHL affiliate and brought blueliner Jacob Bernard-Docker up from Grand Rapids in exchange.
Sandin-Pellikka, 21, had dressed for seven NHL games this season with one assist. Detroit made him the 17th overall pick in the 2023 draft, and as a rookie last year he put up 21 points in 68 games but finished with a minus-20 rating, tied for the worst on the club.
The Swede is no stranger to Grand Rapids. He has two goals and two assists in eight regular-season games over parts of two seasons with the Griffins, and he added four points in eight Calder Cup playoff games last spring.
Bernard-Docker, 26, joined the Griffins after Detroit waived him on Oct. 17. He played three games in Grand Rapids, debuting Oct. 21 against Manitoba. He had begun the season on injured reserve with an upper-body injury and has 207 NHL games on his resume.
Fans can reach the Griffins ticket office at (616) 774-4585 for season and group packages.
