COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Four longtime managers and four front-office figures will get a shot at the Baseball Hall of Fame next month after the Hall released the names on its Contemporary Baseball Era ballot for non-players.
The managers are Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochy, Joe Maddon and Lou Piniella. The executives are Sandy Alderson, Brian Sabean, Ted Turner and Bill White. Turner is the only one of the eight who has died.
The ballot covers managers, umpires and executives whose biggest impact on the game came in 1980 or later. A panel of 11 historians picked the eight names this fall.
A 16-member committee named by the Hall board will meet Dec. 6 in San Diego and announce the vote that evening. A candidate needs to appear on 75 percent of ballots, which works out to 12 of the 16 voters, and each voter can back no more than three people, so no more than three can go in through this route.
Candidates who draw four votes or fewer must sit out the next cycle. In the last round of this process, Jeff Kent was the only person chosen.
Anyone elected goes into the Hall at the July 25, 2027 ceremony in Cooperstown, with any players picked in the writers election, whose results come out Jan. 19, 2027.
The same era group rotates with a players ballot for the same period, set for fall 2028, and a classic era ballot for pre-1980 candidates, due in fall 2027.
