GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Adults who feel buried in headlines can get some help sorting them out this week at the Grand Rapids Public Library. The library is hosting a free media literacy class on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Main Library, 111 Library St. NE, downtown.
The guided session, billed as Making Sense of the News, will walk participants through how to size up a media outlet, recognize slant in coverage and build a mix of sources that offers more than one point of view.
Organizers also plan to talk about reading with a critical eye and keeping conversations civil, both online and face to face. The class is aimed at adults, and no RSVP is needed. The library lists it among its talks and workshops and posts the listing in Spanish as well.
Katie Zychowski, the library marketing and communications director, said in a statement that helping residents find reliable information is central to the library mission.
