GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Jamie Phillips, a well-traveled goalie, is getting a look in the Grand Rapids Griffins net after the club handed him a tryout deal Wednesday.
Phillips, 33, is entering his fifth season as a pro and his first with the Griffins. His American Hockey League experience came with the Manitoba Moose, where he went 8-11-3 over 27 games. He allowed 2.84 goals per game there and stopped 90.6% of shots.
Most of his pro work has come a level lower. Across 99 ECHL games he is 55-36-6, with a 2.72 mark and 90.5% of shots turned aside.
A native of Caledonia, Ontario, Phillips stands 6-foot-3, catches left and was a seventh-round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2012.
A tryout deal lets the club evaluate a player without a full contract. Season ticket packages are available by calling the team at (616) 774-4585, extension 2, and single-game seats are sold through the team.
