GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Michal Postava, the goaltender who has anchored the Grand Rapids Griffins this fall, is the American Hockey League pick as its top netminder for October.
The league made the announcement Tuesday. Postava won all four of his October starts for Grand Rapids, giving up just five goals on 108 shots. That works out to a .954 save percentage and a goals-against mark of 1.25.
His month opened with 18 saves in a 5-2 road win at Cleveland. He stopped 36 of 37 shots in a 2-1 home-opener victory over Manitoba on Oct. 9, then beat Chicago 5-1 on Oct. 11 and Rockford 5-1 on Oct. 18 with a 27-save night.
October also brought his first taste of the NHL. Postava came on in relief for the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 22 at Vancouver and picked up his first NHL win in his first start on Oct. 26 at Edmonton, a 4-3 shootout decision.
The award is the third goaltender of the month honor for a Griffins netminder in the past year, after Sebastian Cossa took the November and December 2025 awards. Through five AHL games this season Postava is 5-0, ranking first in the league in save percentage and second in goals-against average.
The 24-year-old from Czechia signed with Detroit as an undrafted free agent on June 10, 2025.
