GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Griffins are losing their hottest player for now. The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday called goaltender Michal Postava up from Grand Rapids under emergency conditions.
The move follows an injury to Detroit starter John Gibson, who left a game Tuesday night with a lower-body problem. With Gibson out, Daniil Tarasov is in line to start and Detroit needed a second goalie on the roster.
Postava, 24, has not lost for the Griffins this season. He is 5-0-0 in five starts, allowing 1.20 goals per game while stopping 95.5 percent of shots, numbers that made him the AHL goaltender of the month for October.
This is his second stint in Detroit. He picked up his first NHL victory on Oct. 26, a 4-3 shootout decision over the Edmonton Oilers in which he made 24 saves before stopping all three Edmonton shooters in the tiebreaker.
The Red Wings also moved defenseman Albert Johansson to injured reserve, backdated to Oct. 24, which lets the club bring him back as soon as he is healthy.
