GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Griffins lost one of their most dangerous shooters on Sunday, Nov. 1, when the Detroit Red Wings called John Leonard up to the NHL club.
Leonard, 28, had five goals and two assists in six games for Grand Rapids this fall. His four power-play goals had him tied for third in the AHL, and he had a hat trick on Oct. 18 against the Rockford IceHogs.
He is coming off a big 2025-26 season with the Griffins, when he led the team with 33 goals and 54 points in 47 games and was picked for the AHL Second All-Star Team for a second year in a row. He also played 11 games for Detroit last season and had four points.
To fill the roster spot, Grand Rapids brought up Nolan Moyle, a forward, from the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL. Moyle, 27, a Pinehurst, North Carolina, native, has played four games for Grand Rapids this season.
Leonard played college hockey at the University of Massachusetts and was first drafted by the San Jose Sharks in 2018.
