GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids city leaders want residents to review and react to a draft plan that will steer spending on its parks, trails and recreation centers from 2027 through 2032.
The Department of Parks and Recreation rewrites the master plan every five years under state Department of Natural Resources rules. Having a current plan keeps the city eligible for some outside recreation money, including the DNR Trust Fund and the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
Comments are due by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 30, by email to [email protected] or by mail to the parks department at 1500 Scribner Ave. NW. The draft is posted online, and printed copies sit at the department office, the Cook Library Center at 1100 Cesar E. Chavez Ave. SW and several public library branches.
A public hearing is set for 7 p.m. Dec. 1 in the City Commission Chambers at City Hall. Parks director Laura Cleypool said in a statement that resident feedback helps the city decide where to invest and how to care for existing spaces.
After the city works through the comments, the plan goes to the state DNR for approval in January 2027.
