GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Voters in Grand Rapids who need a lift to the polls on Nov. 3 can get one on two wheels for free. Veo, the company that runs the shared scooter and e-bike fleet in the city, is handing out a $10 ride credit for Election Day only.
Riders claim it by typing the code VOTE26 into the Veo Wallet inside the app. The company says the credit covers about two rides, or a round trip within downtown, and it works only on Nov. 3.
The company said the goal is to make voting easier for people who depend on small electric vehicles to get around rather than a car.
Veo became the exclusive shared micromobility provider for the city this fall, replacing Lime. Riders can pick from scooters they stand on, scooters with seats, electric bikes and three-wheelers. Riders must be 18 or older, and people without a smartphone can call Veo at (855) 836-2256 to sign up another way.
The service area spans roughly 12 square miles, about 27% of the land in the city, and it takes in the homes of over half the people in the city. A scooter powers itself down if a rider leaves that zone, and each trip has to finish in a marked parking spot. Since the program began as a 2020 pilot, users have taken more than 2 million trips.
Early in-person voting is already open in Michigan ahead of the midterm general election.
