GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Griffins swapped players with their NHL parent club Thursday, getting goaltender Michal Postava back while forward Sheldon Dries headed to Detroit.
The Red Wings returned Postava to the AHL after a short emergency stint in which he won his NHL debut, a 4-3 shootout victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. He stopped 24 of 27 shots in that game and in the tiebreaker turned away Edmonton stars including Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Postava is 4-0 with the Griffins this season.
Detroit, meanwhile, recalled Dries under emergency conditions to fill a spot at center with Dylan Larkin out of the lineup. Dries, 32, has been one of the hottest scorers in the AHL with five goals and three assists in four games for Grand Rapids. He has no points in six games with the Red Wings this season.
Postava’s return pushed two players down to Toledo: goaltender Carter Gylander and Jacob Truscott.
Grand Rapids has just one game this week, Sunday in Chicago.
