The seasonal calendar runs from the first Friday night kickoff of August through a late-spring finale. Fall drives football and volleyball under Michigan High School Athletic Association governance; winter shifts to hardwood basketball and wrestling; spring delivers baseball, softball, soccer, track, and tennis. Few West Michigan counties match the density of competition nights per week, the breadth of classifications in play, or the decades of local rivalry that fill bleachers every season.
